Our combination tool includes a screwdriver blade, flint knapping hammer, touch hole pick, and worm, with an adapter for a ramrod. Hand forged and beautifully finished, this implement is a superb blending of 18th century functional and aesthetic design.
Flintlock firearms required several accoutrements to keep them in functioning order. A hammer type tool was needed to periodically sharpen the flint. A screwdriver was used to tighten or change flints, a pick was necessary to clean the touch-hole, and a worm was required for cleaning the guns bore. Implements of many different forms were developed that combine these tools into one unit.
Our combination tool is not a military issue form, but rather a type commonly used with personal arms. In this country that usage included hunting and self-defense, as well as required militia participation. This product is a reproduction of an 18th century example in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation collection.
